Today, we’ll be talking all about the supplies and ingredients you need, where to find them, and how to get started. I guess, technically, I should have written this post
, but I’ve recently learned that I’m
a Type A person and should stop trying to be.
So, here we are. And hopefully, since you’re here with me, you’re ready to learn how to make skincare products at home!
Let’s get started.
DIY Skincare Ingredients
First things first, let’s talk about the supplies and ingredients you’ll need for your DIY skincare recipes.
I don’t know about you, but I used to shy away from the idea of DIYing, because it seemed so expensive. Most recipes I found required a huge list of ingredients, and as I started buying, I realized I was spending more than I would if I just bought the product off the shelf!
What I didn’t realize back then, though, was that many of these skincare and beauty recipes use a lot of the
ingredients over and over.
All I had to do was build up a supply of basic DIY skincare ingredients, and I could make
recipes without spending much money.
Here are some basic DIY skincare ingredients I recommend keeping on hand:

Aloe Vera Gel (You can buy it here or here, or make your own with
Activated Charcoal
Jars and spray bottles (I’m a big fan of re-using and recycling, so I use a lot of mason jars, but you can also find just about any size jar or container on Amazon!)
extensive. It’s lists like these that made me shy away from DIYing in the first place! But, when you break it down, many of these items are things already found in my kitchen.
Things like honey, baking soda, coconut oil, and almond oil are pantry staples in my house, and many homes I visit. Epsom salts are pretty popular, too! I know I always keep a huge bag, because I love using them in the bath!
As for the essential oils, my advice is always to
. Every recipe is going to give you a different essential oil suggestion, and that can feel overwhelming. But just know that you don’t
to use the same oils recommended in a recipe (unless you’re going for a specific
). I actually recommend starting with a couple you know work well for you, and keeping it really basic until you get the hang of it! Like I mentioned above, be sure to check out

Where to shop for DIY skincare ingredients & supplies
I’m not going to lie. I get
of my supplies for my skincare products at the grocery store or Walmart. You can find just about anything you need there, because most of these ingredients are
specialty items. They’re just regular, run of the mill items, with the exception of some of the butters and beeswax.
But, if you’d rather shop online, here are some of my favorite places to find DIY skincare and beauty supplies:
: You can find body butters, beeswax, essential oils, carrier oils, and so much more right on their website!
