The Benefits of Using Natural Products

easier. There. I said it. So, why do I do it? Because there are many benefits of using natural products, even when it’s harder.

There’s a lot of talk about natural living these days, and one thing I see a lot is how

it can be. I’m really tired of seeing people say that in an effort to recruit people to their “lifestyle.” It’s a lie, plain and simple. It’s way easier to run to the store and buy whatever you can find on sale. There are a lot of benefits to using natural products, though, besides them being easier.

Let’s talk about some of the reasons I buy natural products, even when it would be so much

to go back to my old, conventional ways.

Natural Products Contain Safer Ingredients

First and foremost, natural products contain safer ingredients. I mean, I think that’s pretty common knowledge, but it’s worth mentioning. After all, isn’t that why most of us make the switch?

But here’s the part of the equation that’s

highlighted when we say it that way:

Conventional products contain

When you grab products off the shelf at the store, you are exposing yourself to ingredients such as:

a blanket statement that can be added to a label to hide a variety of ingredients. That means companies don’t have to disclose all of their ingredients, and

don’t get transparency. Many of the chemicals allowed to be hidden under the “fragrance” label are connected with headaches, skin conditions, respiratory problems, and even hormone disruption. Want to learn more? I found

these are known to disrupt hormone function, which can lead to a whole host of problems, including breast cancer.

known to have neurotoxic effects, as well as the ability to affect reproductive health. It’s an ingredient you can find in a lot of products, but the one getting the most attention is deodorant. The fact that it can disrupt hormones (which can be a cause of diseases like breast cancer), and we’re rubbing it right on breast tissue is shocking a lot of people these days, and I don’t blame them.

sodium lauryl sulfates (sls):

this is an emulsifier used in products like soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, and even laundry detergent. It can cause skin and eye irritation, nausea, and could cause problems with the nervous system, liver, and kidneys with too much exposure. There’s a lot you can learn about this ingredient. I found

to be a good starting point with some good references.

It’s not about just picking the best, it’s about avoiding the worst.

The bottom line is, yes. Natural products contain safer ingredients. But, once you acknowledge that conventional products contain

ingredients, it’s much harder to go back to using them.

You’ll Enjoy Better Air Quality

Did you know that studies are now showing that

the air inside our homes is as bad or

than the air outside

? Usually, we think of air pollution as an outdoor problem, but our homes are filled with chemicals from our household cleaners, candles, paints, and air fresheners.

This is especially bad for people with asthma or respiratory problems, but it’s something that everyone should pay attention to.

One of the benefits of using natural products is that you can avoid breathing in all of these dangerous chemicals. Plus, they just smell better.

like the smell of Lysol or windex lingering in the air after cleaning? I know I don’t.

Natural Products are Better for The Environent

natural products are eco-friendly, but many of the companies pushing for better ingredients are also conscious of the effects we have on the world.

Consider the fact that every single cleaner and personal care product you use in your home eventually ends up either in a landfill or down the drain. Multiplied by how many people there are in the world, that’s a

impact on the environment.

Keep your eyes peeled for natural and eco-friendly products that not only have your health in mind, but also the well-being of the earth.

Natural Products are Gentler on Your Skin

One of the benefits of using natural products for me is that my skin has been much better. I used to have horrible, acne prone skin. Now, I’m in my mid-thirties and my skin is clearer than it’s ever been. Of course, I attribute that to a lot more than just using natural products. Lifestyle choices in general can impact your skin and health a lot.

This isn’t a guarantee for everyone. We all have different sensitivities that need to be addressed. But, in general, most people find that their skin clears up as they make the switch to natural skincare products.

It can take some trial and error to find the best natural brands for your skin, but I think that’s the same no matter what. Maybe for you, simply making the switch to natural or organic skincare is what clears up your skin.

Maybe, you stop using products from the store all together and stick with things like jojoba oil or rosehip oil instead. With a little research and experimenting, you can find the best natural skincare routine for your skin and see amazing results.

You’ll Save Money Over Time

One of the hardest parts of switching over to a more natural lifestyle was the cost. We’re all on a fixed budget, and back then, money was even more tight. The idea of spending more on my cleaners and personal care products made me cringe.

at the idea that natural products were saving me money. I get it. But, here me out!

Many times, natural products do cost more up front. But one thing I’ve learned is that they tend to be more concentrated and more effective. That means you need less, and can often even simplify your routine!

Let’s take my skincare for example. I used to have a lineup of expensive products to help me with my acne prone skin.

Switching to a more natural skincare routine has actually improved my skin, which means that I need fewer products and a more simple routine. I even feel more confident going makeup free, now, because my skin is so much clearer! So, I’m able to use fewer products daily, which ends up saving me money over time.
