Getting Started with Young Living Essential Oils

My Favorite DIY Beauty Hacks

One of the reasons I got into essential oils in the first place was so that I could start making some of my own DIY beauty items.  At the time, making things myself just seemed

much easier than researching every brand out there and picking products. Little did I know that there are

of terrible recipes out there that just plain don’t work.

I’ve had a lot of Pinterest fails over the years, but I’ve also found a lot of really good ideas. To help save you time, energy, and money, I thought I’d share my favorite DIY beauty hacks with you! These are all recipes I’ve tested multiple times, and they actually

Glam-Glow Inspired Charcoal Face Mask

I actually found this recipe when a friend posted it on Facebook, so it’s not technically from Pinterest. It’s from Amy Lorraine, and you can find the link

. I’ll admit, as I made this the first time, I was really skeptical. It’s a lot of ingredients, and I had to buy quite a bit to make it.

, it’s now my favorite face mask. I use it every couple of weeks and one batch of it lasts me a really long time.

This recipe has some amazing ingredients in it, and I love the oils she chose for her recipe. If you’re looking for a charcoal face mask without all the yucky ingredients, I highly recommend this one!

Coconut Oil Face Wash

Yeah, I was skeptical, too. The

last thing I want is an oily face, and this seemed like it’d do just that. Plus, on paper, coconut oil is rated as a comodogenic oil, which means it’ll clog pores.  However, after a lot of research, I’ve found a

of people that have success using coconut oil on their face. So, I decided to give it a try.

I played around with recipes, ratios, and oils I liked for my facial cleanser, and came up with a recipe I love. I shared it in

, so be sure to go check it out.

The lesson to be learned here: not everyone’s skin reacts the same. Just because something rates poorly on paper doesn’t mean your skin will react to it.  The same can be true for the things rated the best. I personally don’t care for jojoba oil and it’s one of the top rated oils for your skin! So, try different things and see what you react best to. Don’t be scared to experiment a little.

Teeth Whitening using Activated Charcoal

Is it just me, or is your newsfeed

in gross before and after pictures of people’s teeth lately? There’s apparently a new toothpaste on the market that people are raving about, but I personally don’t like the ingredients.  Still, I love having a shiny white smile, and my love of coffee and red wine means that I have to whiten my teeth a lot.

I’ve read a lot about how activated charcoal toothpaste can help whiten teeth, so I decided to try it.  I won’t lie.  It was scary.  My whole mouth was

. I posted it on my

stories and people freaked out. But, it works!

I don’t spend money on expensive toothpastes, though. I simply broke open an activated charcoal capsule (which I had on hand for my awesome face mask up above!) and mixed it really well with my Thieves Aromabright toothpaste.  Then, I added one drop of Orange Vitality to the mixture and then brushed my teeth really thoroughly.

It’s incredibly easy, and I wasn’t out any extra money.  Plus, it works. I aim to brush my teeth this way once a week, but I honestly don’t know that I do it often enough.

Are you a big DIYer? I’d love to hear your beauty hacks! If you’re looking for new ideas to try, I’m constantly pinning new ideas

! I’ll admit, I haven’t tried all of these, so may the odds be ever in your favor!
